18:00-19:00 (BST), Monday 27th September
This launch and roundtable discussion marks the publication of New Music and the Crises of Materiality: Sounding Bodies and Objects in Late Modernity (Routledge, 2021). This book explores the transformation of idea of the material in late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century musical composition. Drawing on musicology, cultural theory, and philosophy, the author argues that new music of this era reflects a historical moment when the idea of materiality itself is in flux.
Sam Wilson will introduce the book and outline some key themes, before responses and discussion with invited speakers Prof. Isabella van Elferen (Kingston University, London), Dr Lauren Redhead (Goldsmiths, UoL) and Dr Anthony Gritten (Royal Academy of Music), and the audience.
